PROJECTS

5th ST. PAVILION

Built: 2006

Location: Reno, Nevada

Recipient of the 2007 AIA NORTHERN NEVADA /  RENO MAGAZINE CITATION AWARD

The 5th Street Pavilion is located within Reno’s downtown redevelopment district, on the corner of 5th and Nevada Streets.  This project serves as an urban infill project in what had been a blighted area for decades.

The 6,400 square foot commercial building brings vibrancy to the urban neighborhood, with an assortment of service related businesses including a coffee shop with an outdoor patio and a sandwich shop.  The project location is a statement for urban design and renewal in Reno’s Downtown area, developing a link between the downtown core and other successful local businesses and restaurants.

Materials were carefully chosen to balance simplicity with drama in its context.  Rhythmically spaced masonry piers with Rimex metal panels and storefront glass, the exterior of the building both catches the eye and identifies each individual business.  Light reflects and dances across the panels as one walks in front of the building iridescently changing back and forth between purple and red, interrupted by the concrete masonry piers which serve as a transition between each suite.  The site also allows for outdoor seating and hardscape to further enhance the vitality of the urban sidewalk experience.
